March 14, 2006—David M. Swanson announced today that he has left boutique money manager Calamos Investments to start a new company. The firm, SwanDog Strategic Marketing, LLC, will operate out of Chicagoland and serve the financial services industry.

Swanson, formerly executive vice president and a member of the executive committee at Calamos, joined the firm in early 2004, heading both sales and marketing. During his tenure, Calamos assets grew from $25 billion to over $40 billion.

“For years, Dave has been one of our industry’s leading marketing executives and innovators,” said T. Neil Bathon, president and founder of Financial Research Corporation. “SwanDog will be a great asset to any organization that engages it—no matter the size.”

According to Swanson, SwanDog will bring marketing expertise to distributors, asset managers and other investment-based product providers.

SwanDog will also help:

Swanson said he was compelled to launch the venture because most financial firms were, at best, scratching the surface of marketing’s ability to help them attract prospects and grow existing client businesses.

“For years, the industry grew so quickly and effortlessly that marketing became another cost center,” said Swanson. “That perception fails to recognize just how powerful a tool great marketing can be. We will help companies that we partner with get the most out of their marketing investment.”

Swanson has 27 years of marketing experience, nearly 20 of which have been in financial services marketing and executive management. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer of Van Kampen Investments, Managing Director and Head of Global Investment Products for Morgan Stanley and Managing Director and Director of Marketing for Scudder Kemper Investments. He was a nominee for Institutional Investor’s Fund Marketer of the Year in 2000.

Swanson holds a Masters of Management in Marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and Bachelors in Journalism from Southern Illinois University. He serves on the governing board of Gilda’s Club-Chicago.
